Kurono is the accessible line of Hajime Asaoka — one of perhaps five truly independent master watchmakers in Japan, whose own creations sell for six figures. Kurono distills his design language (mirror-polished cases, deeply domed dials, perfect mid-century proportions) into watches under $4,000, assembled in Tokyo in small numbered batches. Owning one is the closest most of us will get to independent Japanese haute horlogerie.

Every Kurono drop is a 30-minute lottery-style frenzy, and each series is named and themed like an art edition — because that is what they are.

Worth knowing

Sold in limited timed drops only — you can't just buy one; the secondary market carries a premium. Movements are reliable Miyota 90-series rather than anything exotic.
