Microbrand
Sjöö Sandström
sjoosandstrom.comFounded in 1986 by engineers and watch enthusiasts Christer Sjöö and Mikael Sandström in Stockholm, Sjöö Sandström grew from a watch-repair and restoration business into one of the few independent watch brands producing complete timepieces in Sweden. Each watch is hand-assembled to order, typically with a roughly two-week lead time, and individually numbered. The brand spans elegant dress pieces like the Royal Steel Classic, the dual-time UTC and Royal Steel Worldtimer travel watches, the deep-diving Landsort 459m, and the high-end Royal Capital, which pairs Swedish design with a Vaucher micro-rotor movement. Sjöö Sandström has built ties to Swedish institutions and was named Official Timekeeper for SAS (Scandinavian Airlines) on its 80th anniversary.
Worth knowing
Pricing is firmly in the luxury rather than budget-microbrand range (most steel models run roughly 14,000-55,000 SEK / ~$1,500-$5,800), several core models use Swiss quartz movements rather than mechanical, and the made-to-order model means buyers wait for delivery.
