ming.watch

Ming Thein was a celebrated photographer and design theorist before he was a watchmaker, and it shows: every Ming is composed like an image — luminous sapphire dials that glow from within, flared lugs machined like sculpture, typography reduced until only the essential remains. Launched in Kuala Lumpur with Swiss manufacturing partners (including movement work by Schwarz-Etienne and Agenhor), Ming went from unknown to GPHG winner in two years and now sells out collections in minutes.

It is the strongest argument that the future of high watchmaking may not be Swiss at all.

Worth knowing

Allocation is brutal — most models are gone instantly and trade above retail; the aesthetic is singular (you're buying into one man's vision); service rounds-trip to Switzerland.
